Cast This - Daredevil

With Marvel and Netflix coming together recently to announce not only one tv show, but four (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist), culminating in to a fifth season about The Defenders, I thought it was time to look at the first show to go into production, Daredevil.

The man without fear will be the first season to be shown on Netflix with a minimum of 13 episodes.

Daredevil, as you may know had a film with Ben Affleck as Matt Murdoch back in 2003, but it was critically panned and pretty much bombed for the most part at the Box Office. There was also an attempt by Joe Carnahan to get a re-boot going, but due to timescales it didn’t happen before the character reverted back to Marvel.

It has also been confirmed that these films will take place in the same cinematic world as The Avengers movies, so we could actually see some of these characters get their own big screen outing or join the Avengers in a later film in the franchise. This makes for interesting watching, as these characters are certainly a lot darker than those we have seen so far in the Marvel Universe, which I think fits great in the land of TV.

Who is Daredevil?

Daredevil is Matt Murdoch who lives in Hell’s Kitchen and is blinded by a radioactive substance. This substance may have made him blind but it heightened all his other remaining senses beyond human ability. Murdoch goes on to become Daredevil after his father is killed by gangsters and he vows to use his abilities to seek revenge on those who killed his father.

Who should play the part?

Daredevil is a dark and brooding character, one that would be complex to play. He will also be fairly physical, he fights almost hand to hand and jumps across buildings without fear.

My main pick for this role would be Dexter actor Michael C. Hall, dark and brooding would be a walk in the park for him and physically I think he would match up without any issues. Would he want to commit to another possibly long-term series? I’m not sure, it was his primary reason for wanting to finish Dexter and concentrate on other things, so it might be a hard get for Marvel, but Hall has shown some interest in the role and isn’t adverse to talking to Marvel, so there could be hope yet for my ideal pick.

Other actors that would be in the mix for me would be Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire) or possibly someone like Josh Holloway (Lost). If Marvel were to go down the route of someone a little younger, then maybe the likes of Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), but I think its likely to be an older Daredevil going by the rumours coming out.

Who would be our ideal Daredevil?
