Liam Hemsworth

It’s been known for a while now that Roland Emmerich was working on a sequel to 1996′ Independence Day, with it green lit for a Summer 2016 release, but with Will Smith ruling out a return it’s been unknown who would lead the franchise now.

Well, step forward Liam Hemsworth, although not confirmed its thought that Hemsworth has been offered the role.

Hemsworth is slightly lesser know of the 3 Hemsworth brothers, also the youngest, has has been building up a steady reputation and with his small roles in the Hunger Games films and Expendables, could this be the time for a big blockbuster to trust him with a franchise, much like Marvel did with his older brother Chris on Thor?

I actually think he is a good actor and although one of his recent movies, Paranoia tanked at the box office, I thought he was the best part of the film, which starred Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford.

Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum are already confirmed to return, so it makes sense both in terms of a franchise and the overall cast, to bring in a younger actor to lead the film. I’m quite excited at this casting news actually, I just hope they have the script that can put Hemsworth on the a-list like his brother.

Independence Day 2 directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum is due in UK cinemas on 1st July 2016.
